Vandad Kardar is the yearly co host of 420 Toronto, co creator of White Mans Burden podcast with Amish Patel. Vandad is an experienced performer & show runner. He spent many many hours in Brampton as a child as his family ran a Bollywood movie theatre, Vandad and his friends would sit in the projector room and simultaneously watch 3 films at a time. He still cant speak any Hindi but he’s got a few of those dances memorized and is excited to show them off at #BollywoodMonster Mashup.

Edworld Kim is an Asian-based Korean entertainer specialized in doing a variety of fun movements in any location. He has been mainly Emcee-ing when he was
in his home country. In addition, he held diverse parties as a party planner when he was staying in China, making his skills more abundant when he does stand-up. Currently, he has been doing stand-up comedy to bring happiness to people and to make them stick together. His jokes are universal, multi-cultural, and works regardless of ethnicity. He never stops moving, and his audiences always expect huge amounts of fun, inventiveness and freshness from him. He never stops cracking jokes regardless of where he is, as long as it can make someone feel funny and happy. He has been studying in Humber Comedy Program since 2017.

Harpreet is a Toronto based stand-up comedian, improviser, writer and actor. She is an alumni of Second City’s Toronto’s Longform Conservatory and Sketch Conservatory programs, and regularly performs stand-up all over Canada and the US. She’s headlined the Lady Laughs Comedy Festival in Wisconsin and the Chicago Women’s Funny Festival, and was featured in the North Carolina Comedy Festival and the 6th Borough Comedy Festival in New Jersey. She coproduces and hosts The Darjeelings of Comedy, showcasing South Asian identifying females, and The Anti-Token Comedy Show featuring comedians of colour in Toronto. Harpreet is the creator and star of a web series called INDIE-pendent.

Amish Patel’s life began as a classic fish out of two waters tale. From a young age he gained perspectives on both Indian and Canadian cultures and learned to deal with discrimination and xenophobia through humour. Amish loved comedy from day one but he still obtained an Aerospace Engineering degree. After literally becoming a rocket scientist, Amish recently booked a leading role on a kids’ comedy show with the Emmy-Award winning ​ Sinking Ship​, which will premiere this year on TVO, Amazon and Nickelodeon. He has also appeared on ​ Saving Hope, Man Seeking Woman​, and ​Odd Squad​. As a stand up he recently opened for Saturday Night Live ​ alumni Tim Meadows, and Iliza Schlesinger. His original sketch comedy show Melting Pot​ is currently being developed for Kevin Hart’s LOL Network. And, Amish knows how airplanes work. Did we cover that? Great!

Parichay, is an Indo-Canadian Bollywood Music Composer, Producer & Singer/Songwriter. With 3 studio albums under his belt, his biggest break came in 2016 when he became the first ever non-resident Indian to do 4 out of 5 songs in a mainstream Bollywood film for production powerhouse, Tips, including the mega hit Bollywood track ‘Peene Ki Tamanna’.

Staasia Daniels is an R&B singer/songwriter/turtle-lover from Toronto who emerged from her shell and shared with the world her “Hidden Gems” in 2016: a debut EP that garnered attention, fans, and a confirmation that her decision to pursue music seriously after years of singing was indeed the right one.

Randy Persaud is a prolific character in Peel Region who champions many events throughout his community. Charged as the cities’ Hypemachine, Randy is one of the most sought after hosts, announcers and community producers in city.

A charismatic Rogers Television personality for over 7 years, Randy has hosted a variety of programs from Talk Local, Local Notes, Carassauga Pre-Show, The MARTY Awards Kickoff show and Cable 10 Live.

He has worked with high profile CBC productions such as Hockey Night in Canada, The Olympic Summer and Winter Games, Dragons Den, Rick Mercer and many more.

A former boxing ring announcer for Boxing Ontario, Randy has hosted events at arenas and stadiums around southern Ontario. He has hosted crowds of over 80,000 for many events from the Bollywood Monster Mashup, Youth Day, MAC Arts Festival, Mississauga Waterfront Festival, The Pan Am Games and Carassauga.

In 2016, Randy won the Creative Community award by the Mississauga Arts Council at the MARTY Awards for his work in the community. His award was recognized by the Honourable MP Iqra Khalid in the House of Commons.

CJ “Killa Beatz” Mairs is an international vocal instrumentalist whose passion for the art of Beatbox began at the tender age of 5.  Hailing from a musical family, Beatz was literally born into sound. With influences spanning from Otis Redding and Elvis Presley to Aretha Franklin and Earth, Wind and Fire, anytime he heard good music, he would immediately try to emulate it with his voice.  This fascination made him an instant victor in schoolyard battles and would soon lead him to multiple championships.

Most recently placing first in the Great North Beatbox Battle in the Tag Team division, along with long time companion, Subconscious, as Word of Mouf, earlier this year. Beatz has also made appearances on Much Music, MTV and billed as featured headliner at the American Beatbox Championship (as Word of Mouf). Beatbox pioneer Kenny “The Human Orchestra” Muhammad, named them the “Run DMC of beat boxing” after witnessing one of their NYC performances. 

Beatz has opened for an acclaimed roster of international artists including members of Wu Tang, The Roots, Biz Markie and Kardinal Offishall. As an educator, he teaches hip hop basics, music production and the history of beatboxing at various middle and high schools. He is currently producing music and co-curating a promotional web series with Queen GodIs for the forthcoming The Book of Lyte Project.

HANHAN

HANHAN

Haniely Pableo aka HANHAN is a young Filipino-Canadian female poet / emcee who raps in Filipino languages (Tagalog and Cebuano,) addressing Filipino diasporic social issues through her lyricism inspired by her personal experiences as a young Filipino immigrant woman of colour ranging from immigrant issues, social activism and cultural pride. Her music features elements and sounds of Filipino traditional instruments (kulintang, agong, bamboos and kubing) with catchy hip hop contemporary beats. Her performances feature elements of Filipino folk dance and movement with Filipino and diasporic visual elements.

Since migrating to Canada in 2006, HanHan has been performing at various festivals and venues in Toronto. Her first solo self-titled album, HAN HAN, was released in 2014. Since then, her music has been featured in a video game, a Canadian independent film (The Indefinites), a TV show (Amazon Original series – MAD DOGS) and has been licensed by EMI UK. In addition, her music has received radio airplay in France, Berlin and in the Philippines.

Movin’ Cool is a hip hop group consisting of emcees B Magic and Noyz, and producer/DJ Dusty Loops. Gifted with a name that carries a touch of destiny, Toronto-born, Brampton-raised, Haviah began her artistic journey in 2009, and is since rapidly becoming one of the most thought-provoking, viscerally entertaining and magnetic rap artists in Canada. Her most recent EP, Flower City, which was named one of Complex’s Favourite Canadian Releases of 2017, is a watershed moment in her blossoming career. Desiree Mckenzie is a spoken-word poet from Brampton, Ontario. She began writing spoken word six years ago; starting with her background in theatre, where she found her love for performing and sharing stories. She competes in poetry slams around the GTA and was ranked amongst the top 12 female poets in Toronto in 2016. As a BAM! Youth Slam mentorship program alum, she also began taking spoken word workshops, sharing the art of poetry as an outlet. With a poetic style reminiscent of a friendly heart to heart conversation, she knows that her truth is the most intimate gift she can share.
Nasim Asgari

Nasim Asgari

Nasim Asgari is a thinker and dreamer, born in Tehran and based in Toronto. She is currently in her third year at York University studying human rights and equity studies. Nasim began writing at the age of 10 when she decided to use her voice and written words to express herself and bring awareness to issues that are often undermined by today’s world. Nasim has shared her poems at events, poetry slams and protests including TEDX Rouge River, R.I.S.E. Edutainment, Gardiner Museum, and Art Gallery of Ontario. Her poems will soon be available in her upcoming literary release titled, “what was swept under the persian rug”.
Kendal Thompson

Kendal Thompson is a singer/songwriter who originates from Alliston, Ontario. In 2007, Kendall moved to Toronto, where she first found a home in the folk circuit. Endless shows and projects later she had a meeting with producer, songwriter and musician Mike Schlosser and the musical results have formed that basis of all her music since. In 2015, Kendal enjoyed multiple wins at Toronto indie weeks battle of the bands. Following those performances she proudly announced her debut ep “ONE” on Little Noise Records. Succeeding that gave her the privilege of working with friend and fellow artist, John Orpheus. The song titled “BUTTAHFLY” has reached 100k views on YouTube and has been a fan favourite in the Orpheus base.

Sumo Cyco

The Hamilton based metal group fuse hard rock guitar riffs with in your face beats and dancehall rhythms, topped by electric female vocals. Front-woman Sever is the alter ego of pop sensation and Juno nominee Skye Sweetnam​, who has performed in over 25 countries and opened for Britney Spears for 50 dates on the Onyx Hotel Tour. Since departing her solo career and forming the band, Sumo Cyco has toured with artists like Mushroomhead and Butcher Babies. In the
studio, they’ve worked with Jag Tanna (I Mother Earth), Julius ‘Juice’ Butty (Alexisonfire) and Matt DeMatteo (Big Wreck). Sumo Cyco has won Loud/Metal Recording of the Year at the Hamilton Music Award, Best Female-Fronted band at the Toronto Independent Music Awards, and won Indie Week Canada before touring the UK and Ireland. Their recently released sophomore album Opus Mar, is a raucous hard-rock masterpiece featuring their electrifying single “Anti-Anthem.”

Stephanie Braganza is a powerhouse vocalist whose performances helped her win a Toronto Independent Music Award for Best Live Artist. The vocalist has performed in a wide array of settings throughout her career, including a private event at the Art Gallery of Ontario which was attended by former president George W. Bush, and at the MuchMusic Video Awards. An outspoken animal rights activist, her latest music video; “Chains of Silence” has won two 2017 Global Music awards for “Best Female Vocalist” and “Best Music Video,” and has received support from Bif Naked, Tony Kanal (No Doubt) and PETA. Justin Maki is a Pop/Easy-Listening singer, guitarist, and music artist. Since officially committing to his music career in 2012, he has played over 1,000 shows, released 2 EPs (“The Acoustic Diaries: Fight” and “Long Time Coming”), along with some singles, and has gone on 3 Cross Canada Tours. Justin has also shared the stage with industry heavy-weights like Monster Truck, The Mudmen, and The Sheepdogs.

Olaf Szester is a percussionist/drummer and composer. He currently focuses his energies on freelancing, teaching and exploring a variety of diverse projects. Olaf has had the pleasure of sharing the stage with artists such as Tom Cochrane, Skydiggers, Great Big Sea, Hey Rosetta and AKON.  Currently Olaf is the drummer for the high energy punk alternative band BROOMFILLER, who have released and toured several albums to date and a dark alternative pop band called Gelax.  Furthermore, Olaf can be found on the self-titled album of the progressive rock band Duck Duck Goose.

Brampton-raised artist, Roveena, is adding her powerful voice to the mix. Roveena has taken the music scene by storm, after posting a video of herself singing “At Last” on YouTube, which caught the eyes of Toronto’s City TV producers and landed her a guest spot to perform on their show. Soon after her Breakfast Television debut, she was invited to sing the national anthems at Toronto Blue Jays and NFL games, and placed in the Top 3 on the singing competition show TVI’s Superstar. Her first EP received critical acclaim, with Roveena quickly being recognized as “a stunning voice that needs to be heard” and garnered attention from various media and radio outlets, including glowing reviews from CBC Radio and FYI Music News.

Wali (Flo) Shah was selected as one of Canada’s Top 20 Under 20 in 2014,  Wali Shah is a highly acclaimed Canadian speaker and poet. He is also currently a student at the University of Toronto. Wali combines social issues, experiences, comedy, and his South Asian and Muslim background to bring his work to life.
